Mineral resources and reserves calculation is very important to mineral exploration. It is not only one of the fundamental tasks for mineral exploration, but also the basis of mine production management. It runs through the entire life cycle of mine. At present, mineral reserves calculation methods are basically divided into two categories. One is the traditional methods based on simple geometric calculations; the other is mathematical geological methods based on statistics. The traditional methods of mineral reserves calculation are commonly used in China's mining exploration and exploitation stages. Using those methods, works of mineral reserves calculation are manual and complex, and results have more subjective factors.The computer aided calculation and auto-classification of mineral reserves is future direction of mineral reserves calculation. It is also an important part of works for the geological surveying and mineral resource exploration and digital mine. The rapid development of computer technologies contributes greatly to the computer-aided mineral reserves calculation. Many researchers introduced databases, EXCEL, and CAD, and developed the corresponding software in order to improve the manual process and efficiency in mineral reserves calculation. However, these auxiliary tools didn't have the appropriate professional processing. So, their data processing forms, methods and efficiency are greatly restricted in the practical application. Due to the older versions, limited functions, and not well visualization, the early software is not satisfied in the current application. In the late 1990s, although the introduction of foreign mining software which has advanced Krieger mineral reserves calculation methods, its' calculations need detailed data. So, it is not suitable for the characteristics of mineral exploration in China. At the same time, the other functions, such as reserves classification, are not very well to solve the problems of mineral reserves calculation. And it also needs to be supplemented to comply with the development of China's reality.As mineral reserves calculation computer application is at the initial stage, the software which can support China's traditional methods of mineral reserves calculation well is still in research. At the same time, due to the complexity of mineral reserves calculation, the diversity of mineral reserves calculation models, polymetal of mine, as well as new reserves classification criteria is complex and difficult to quantify, the degree of computer-aided automated mineral reserves calculation and classification is relatively low. Therefore, it is very important to research the software system which can support complex mine mineral reserves calculation based on China's traditional methods.With the help of GIS and related computer technologies, by using methods how to realize mineral reserves calculation system supporting polymetal as the starting point, a traditional mineral reserves calculation method-the vertical section method as the entry point, mineral reserves calculation and classification theories as the guide, and point-source database as the basis, this paper did some studies on mineral reserves calculation system modeling, realization and key technologies on mineral reserves calculation system which can support polymeta, auto-classification methods of mineral reserves, etc. Its' emphasis of researches are at the realization of mineral reserves calculation system and mineral reserves auto-classification. It initially realized the traditional mineral reserves calculation subsystem supporting polymetal in digital mine software -QuantyMine, which can provide a traditional mineral reserves calculation and dynamic management platform for users , so as to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of mineral reserves calculation and management, and further promote the level of mine information work and the development of digital mine.Firstly, based on the status and existing problems of mineral reserves calculation software, the study on system realization and auto-classification for mineral resources and reserves calculation was established.Then, according to mineral reserves calculation methods, the mineral reserves calculation system modeling was discussed. Those models include system models and mathematical models.Thirdly, realization and key technologies on mineral reserves calculation system which can support polymeta, and problems such as variable weight, stone and the mined-out area were researched. According to the characteristic of China's standards of classification for Resources/Reserves of Solid Fuels and Mineral Commodities, the method of computer aided auto-classification of mineral reserves was discussed.Finally, in order to verify the credibility of the vertical section mineral reserves calculation subsystem, using Xinjiang Ashele copper and zinc mine as an example, the mine's reserves was calculated in this paper. Calculation results showed that this system could support complex polymetal mines mineral reserves calculation and had many advantages, such as accurate mineral reserves calculation, fast output of mineral reserves calculation maps, and so on. It can support the mineral reserves dynamic management and mine production management decision-making.In this paper, the main innovations include:(I) A new system realization method of mineral reserves calculation system supporting polymetal was elicited, and the relevant key technologies were resolved. On the basis of more comprehensive understanding in the traditional methods of mineral reserves calculation, this paper elicited a system realization method of mineral reserves calculation system supporting polymetal, and some methods which can resolve those problems such as variable weight, stone and the mined-out area, and so on. And it realized some related functions.(II) According to the characteristic of China's standards of classification for Resources/Reserves of Solid Fuels and Mineral Commodities, the method of computer aided auto-classification of mineral reserves was discussed. A new mineral reserves auto-classification method of judging classification by quantified mineral reserves classification elements and geological knowledge was elicited. It provides a new method for the computer aided calculation and auto-classification of mineral reserves.In this paper, the results can be used to mineral reserves calculation system supporting polymetal and related computer applications. And the basic techniques have broad application prospects on the system realization for mineral resources and reserves calculation of solid fuels.
