The production environment of underground coal mine is complicated and bad; also lack of the reliable technology of personnel location, therefore the hidden danger of the accident is enormous. Because china's rescue equipment is backward and the development of rescue technology is slow, the communications of mine at the ground with the underground is not real-tine. To a certain extent, those factors affect the whole rescue task. In the recent years, the radio frequency communication and its advanced technology developed fast, which can provide the powerful technical support for personnel location in coal mine.On the basis of vast collecting the use situation of RFID and considering the status on the security manage of the mine, this paper studies the applications of RFID in the mine monitoring and localization system. With the problems of incomplete communication function and complicated techniques and realization in mine,an wireless communication system based on personnel orientation is developed with the technology of radio frequency communication and the modern computer communication. So the mine departments and leaders can get the correlative circus of the mine easily, providing them with the important basis for the surveillance, the decision-making. Thus the system will promote the safety in production and the management efficiency.Firstly, this paper introduces the status on the security manage of the mine and studied the characteristic of wireless channel in mine tunnels and the personnel location of the coal mine, and analyzed the feasibility of the wireless location technology used in the coal mine. Secondly, in view of the especial environment of the mine, gives construction, function request and the technical parameter of the mine localization system. Emphatically make the fundamental research to the radio frequency identification technology. Thirdly, a wireless terminal's hardware design of the localization system based on the nRF9E5 is introduced. Fourthly, by discussing elaborated the IEEE802.11 standard and related backoff mechanism, the software design base on IEEE802.11 about the data gathering station and identification card are introduced. Considering the hidden terminal phenomenon, RTS/CTS mechanism is presented and analyzed in the paper, and the anti-collision capability of the system is also analyzed. Finally it discusses the debugging and the throughput of system.The practice indicates that this system is easy to control and use,and it works very stably and can realize wireless communication from one to many reliably in mine. With this system we may not only realize the function of monitoring and localization to the mine, moreover it has characteristics of strong extension and flexibly in use. We can make different procedure to different system. The hardware module of the system also may be expanded according to need to realize the function of the vehicles management and so on.
