Acorrding to the underground mine personnel orientation system, the main task is to collect the staffs'information who carry radio frequency tags throngh radio frequency readers. The information incudes the information of staffs'identify and location, then the intellect nodes on CAN bus transmit the received data to PC by way of RS-232 serial port's lines, the data information processed by data processing center can storaged into database's tables, finally it can achieve the function of staff -monitoring-inquiring and analog-displaying.The main content of this paper can be divided into two parts, one is the research of data communication and processing of the system, it is data communication between readers and RF cards including communication process and protocol, and the intellect nodes on CAN bus and PC; another is the design of human computer interface and database, it can achieve information-management of the system.The paper applies Visual Basic 6.0 to design application program, accomplishing the design of HCI and serial communication. It uses MSComm control to achieve communication in serial communication part, and it formulates communication protocol to complete data acquisition; it uses powerful and easy-operating SQL Server 2000 as the personnel orientation system database management system, completing the establishment of the system tables, it also combines SQL and ADO to operate database. Finally, it achieves the expected function by means of overall debugging of the system.
