The purpose of this thesis is inquiring into the relationship between agenda-setting and public opinion on periodical publications. Recently, there exit tremendous gaps between the rich and the poor in China, which makes agenda about the poor remarkable. As the reflection of society operation, public opinion can feel the"pulse"of society. The agenda about the poor becomes a hot issue of public opinions. Recently in China, the agenda about the poor has become not only an important issue but also a long-term task in the construction of a harmonious socialist society.Texts of the thesis are all chosen from www.people.com, with poor as a key word, which is also the object of the research. Comparing with previous studies, this research has a dependable carrier, which makes it possible to fix our eyes on"the poor". At the same time, the agenda about the poor can reflect the manifestation and evolving process of public opinion on periodical publications to some degree. At the basic of studying the agenda about the poor, this thesis analyzes the three essential factors of public opinion, explores the evolving process, and investigates the declination of public opinion. The result that the thesis finds out is that the effect which media guides public opinion is not obvious, on the contrary, the effect which media stimulates readers to make evaluation is strengthened. Nowadays, media is inclined to express all kinds of voices, including excessive information on commerce and entertainment. In front of electric media, the public opinion on periodical publications is running down. As the"gate-keeper"of periodical publications, it is necessary to lead public opinion more skillfully.This thesis provides a new perspective because of its emphasis on the relationship between agenda and public opinion on periodical publications. The text analysis is the primary research method, and quantitative analysis is also utilized in contrasting texts, which make the research depend on some data materials. The poor is presented as a weak community, whether clearly or not, from the mainstream or the edge, whether the report has influence on readers or not, and so on. All the contents offer a critical perspective for research on public opinion about the poor's agenda on periodical publications.
