With the development of Internet, people hope that embedded devices used in daily life can connect with Internet conveniently, it is a new challenge for embedded system design, which requires low cost, multifunction and high performance. All of these are hotspots of embedded system design.Programmable logic device, such as FPGA, progressed at very fast speed in past decades of years, developed from thousands of gates originally to millions of gates now, reliability and integration are improving continually, thus power consumption and cost are decreasing continually and have high ratio of performance and cost. Additionally, with the advantages of short design period and low requests to designer comparatively, it is applied widely in embedded system design. This paper is based on fact that FPGA has the characters of high ratio of performance and cost, flexible configuration, and also a popular style of embedded system design, such as "Microcontroller + FPGA", so we put forward a solution based on FPGA. And in this paper it is realized by implementing embedded TCP/IP (including UDP,IP,ARP and TCP protocol, etc) and Ethernet MAC protocol in FPGA ,also providing standard MII interface, and connecting with network through external PHY chip. Eventually the design is verified successfully on hardware system.Implementation based on FPGA can reduce cost effectively, integrate other function modules easily to improve system integration at the same time, also the PCB board area and routing complexity are reduced, and is in favor of improving system reliability. Therefore, the study has much practicality value for embedded design.
