As the most important means of communication, the net is focused on much more attention. Information and access to information in the modern people's lives occupy an increasingly important position, and, accordingly, an emerging discipline– information design have emerged.Information design has a wide research area that involves many disciplines, in which areas the information design have different aspects of study. And the research discussed in this paper is mainly focused on the design disciplines in the arts field, including Information Graphics, Digital-Media Arts, Ergonomics, User's Cognitive Psychology, etc, and the closely connected subjects. Research of this paper chooses today's largest Internet media as the information environment which impacts people's lives most.In this paper, we defined the concept of information design and traced its historical development, discussed the basic characteristics of information design and put forward my own understanding of information design. Subsequently, we analyzed the current largest information environment– Web, and defined the concept of web interface and features of the Web. At the same time, we discussed web users and web experience. Relying on the Web interface, with examples and the corresponding design criteria, we carried out a detailed analysis about the elements of the information architecture (content building systems, navigation systems, interactive systems, search systems, visual communication system). This paper is writing from the perspective of art and design to research the information design which aimed at structuring information so as to make it available and optimally useful. This paper has some practical significance as a guide to the domestic information design research as well as some reference value on practice aspects. And, it provides possibility of follow-up studies.
