The Study Of Information Architecture On Domestic Subject Information Gateways

To solve the problems in domestic Subject Information Gateway, low quality of information resources and services, low utilization, this paper use Information Architecture to construct subject information gateways. The paper explains core content of SIG information architecture and process, and proposes personalized service can be realizedThis paper surveys the construction of typical domestic SIG, analyzes their characteristics and problems, such as small amount of resources, slow update, single label system, dificient in personalized service and so on. To solve above problems, the author proposes to use information architecture(IA) theory to guide the construction of SIG. IA aims to organize information effectively and optimize the information environment. It emphasizes the integration of users, content and context, and studies sites-building strategies and process. SIG information architecture is committed to making complex information clear, and show it in understandable manner.This paper studies the information architecture of SIG. Functions of SIG include integration and organization of resources, information search and navigation, as well as personalized information services. Its features decided the four core elements of SIG information architecture: Firstly, organization system, includes building the establishment of academic classification clustering system, the relationship list systems, and knowledge structure like hierarchical,database models and hypertext; Secondly, to build label system including textual and image-based label; Thirdly, to build navigation system,including embedded navigation systems and auxiliary navigation systems; Finally, to construct search system, it provides one-stop search service.Process of SIG information architecture is based on above four core elements. The process includes the concept design, information organization, information navigation and retrieval, interactive systems design, and information display and distribution. Conceptual design is to definite information ecological environment of the SIG to be constructed, including the users, information content, and environment; process of information organization, navigation and design of interactive systems assure clarity of information, and make the information understandable; information display and dissemination make SIG available to the user. Information architecture theory can optimize the structure of academic information resources, and help SIG to achieve sustainable development. And then SIG can provide better services to users.
