RFID is short for Radio Frequency Identification, which distinguishes things automatically by a non- contact way. It identifies targets automatically over radio signals and gains the relevant information of the target, during which process manual work is unnecessary. As a wireless edition of bar code, RFID technology is water proofing, can guard against magnetism, is thermostable, has a long service life, can identify target from a long distance, can encrypt the data of tags, has a bigger capacity of memory and can modify memory information easily. All the merits above don't have by bar code. Especially the fusion of electronic tags with product electron code EPC and the Internet technology, gestates the"Internet of things"which is regarded as the next generation Internet. During the recent ten years, RFID and EPC draw a fast speed in application and developing. Countries such as USA, Japan, have already applied RFID technology to a lot of fields successfully,such as circulation, manufacture, national security and social life, and have benefited a lot in both society and economic fields. USA Ministry of National Defence, Tesco, Metro etc., have already adopted RFID in business actively. Wal-Mart, the retail giant in world, has asked its supplier to adopt RFID in the deadline.This paper discusses the present situation of modern manufacturing industry and the demand of RFID technology firstly, then introduces this topic origin. This paper first summarized demand of real time nature and accuracy in modern manufacturing industry data collection, and analyzes defects of the present Manufacturing Execution System based on the bar code technology. In the end of this chapter, the reason of choosing RFID technology is given by comparing the bar code and RFID technology.The background of RFID is introduced in the second chapter,then the paper elaborates operating principle, system composition of RFID more in detail, as well as respective working principle, composition of readers and tags. EPC system based on RFID technology is briefly explained and the scope of this subject is clarified later. Right devices are selected in this chapter, combining with characteristics of this application.The construction design and data handling of digital production line based on the RFID technology is expounded in the third chapter in detail. In this chapter, the characteristics of modern manufacturing industry is illustrated, and then why manufacturing industry needs digital production lines is explained. Manufacturing industry is order forms oriented, with the characteristic of multi- varieties and small batch. So enterprises should promptly adjust production according to the order forms, and completes the order form in time. The digital production line can satisfy the characteristic of the modern manufacturing. Different schemes of data collection on digital production line are contrasted, then a kind of information acquisition scheme based on RFID is selected. Taking procedure of production refrigerator as example, work flow, production line structure, frame network and how to handle data of production line based on RFID is discussed.The fourth chapter sets forth the integration of RFID technology with MES system. The function of MES based on RFID is explained. And the interface between information collection based on RFID and MES is realized.In the end, merits and shortcomings of this system are offered in detail, problems and prospects of RIFD in application are also illustrated.
