Nowadays when international competition is tougher, science and technology development has been the force of economic development for every country. The periodicals of science and technology as a carrier of its production and spread in our country are important part of composing in the course of science and technology development. The periodicals of science and technology which act as an important tache in the course of science and technology development in innovative system of our country are bringing forth its production, and participating in international competition. It is a glory which rapid development of science and technology career endows the periodicals of science and technology. One of important targets in internationalization of the periodicals of science and technology is indexed in international searches system. Once the periodicals of science and technology are indexed in international searches system, referenced frequency of theses in the periodicals could increase internationally. MEDLINE is one of the most famous biomedical international searches systems, and once a biomedical periodical is indexed in MEDLINE, it means a symbol of international acknowledge. Those periodicals are the most meaning in improving international force and referenced frequency of theses, and displaying the level and production in biomedical fields.In 2006, MEDLINE have embodied 5176 periodicals of 75 countries in the world, but Chinese(mainland) periodicals are only 82,it is 6% of all(1300) of biomedical periodicals of our country. The number of periodicals indexed in MEDLINE is so few that it is not unsuitable as the country of a great quantity of periodicals, and at the same time it doesn't accord with our tactic target for internationalization of the periodicals of science and technology.Facing so austere realism, every editor should speculate how to let more Chinese biomedical periodicals to be indexed in Medline. Therefore,"The countermeasures of Chinese biomedical periodicals to be indexed in MEDLINE"was regard as research task. Firstly I have understood completely the composing, characteristic, fashion of MEDLINE, and then probed into its scope, the principle of selection, criterion of selection, evaluation department, and procedure of selection and process of indexing.Secondly I have adopted an investigation by network for 5176 biomedical periodicals in MEDLINE in 2006, analyzing distribution of these periodicals in the world. Many characteristic of biomedical periodicals in the world in MEDLINE are as follows: (1) the periodicals in North America and Europe account for above 90%, and the forefront 5 countries in the number are America, England, Germany, Holland, Japan ;(2) English periodicals in all the indexed periodicals account for majority absolutely;(3)8 non-English countries for the indexed periodicals place in order: Japan, France, Chinese, Russia, India, brazil, Korea, and Egypt. English and multi-language(including English) periodicals account for 64.8%, specialty periodicals account for 88.2%,proportion of all periodicals places in subjects order: medicine, biology, hygienic, pharmacology, veterinary, psychology, and medical pedagogy.Thirdly I have adopted a questionnaire to investigate 74 Chinese biomedical periodicals indexed in MEDLINE, and summarized the experience of Chinese biomedical periodicals indexed in MEDLINE. There are mainly: (1) specialty periodicals of Our indexed periodicals account for majority, and all periodicals in its subject field are high-class;(2) power of every periodical is stronger, and English editors are excellent; (3)peer review system is regarded very much and science quality is excellent for every periodical;(4)edit and typesetting keep up with international formats;(5)degree of periodical internationalization is high, and being indexed in other international searches systems largely;(6)in triumphant experience, all periodicals emphasize specially:①to improve science merit of a periodical;②to improve English quality of a periodical;③to adopt international layout criterion;④to write a comprehensive application letter.Lastly I have still adopted a questionnaire of"an analysis for indexes of selection and evaluation for MEDLINE."And then indexes of evaluation in evaluation table were sorted into 5 items, and every item was sorted into some clauses. The return questionnaires were analyzed, and then we acquired average mark of every clause, and could sort all clauses according to average mark of every clause: indexⅠ≥4.5; indexⅡ≥4; indexⅢ≥3; indexⅣ< 3. Ultimately all indexes will be reduced toⅠ～Ⅳsort. Results show there are 7 items in indexⅠ: to abide by ethnics rules, to publish on time, peer review, criterion of abstract writing, to abide by Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, English quality of a periodical and original basic these. The analysis of indexes could help us consummate periodicals and in favor of contacting with MEDLINE, and it reference value is important.On base of above studies, the countermeasures and measures of Chinese biomedical journals to be indexed in MEDLINE have been put forward. (1) to improve science merit of a periodical: to emphasize selection and organize manuscripts, to attract manuscripts of high science merit, to select readers of high science level, to emphasize rules of peer review, to stand out subject characteristic; (2)to improve degree of biomedical periodicals in internationalization :to increase international committeemen of a periodicals, to increase international peer review, to international manuscripts and to hold international academic symposium; (3)to intense quality of publishing and editing: to carry out Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts Submitted to Biomedical Journals, to abide by ethnics rules and emphasize copyright, to announce interest on conflict of these, to correct wrong these; (4) to improve English quality of a periodical; (5)to intense editors; (6) to prepare for contacting with MEDLINE, especially to write to write a comprehensive application letter.With the development of biomedical science and technology, Chinese biomedical periodical would advance in quality and quantity. Once we could stand out subject characteristic, to improve science merit of a periodical, to improve English quality of a periodical and to exerting in subject specialty, and to prepare for measures according with selection and demand, there will be more biomedical periodicals to embody in MEDLINE in the future.
