CAD developed so fast that the traditional pattern of design can't satisfy nowadays needs, such as overall management and data sharing in large-scale team. The desire that CAD system evolves into distributed structure and realizes cooperation becomes more and more strong. In this situation, computer aided collaborative design is developed at a high speed and some softwares have been shown up. However most of the existing softwares are based on net-meeting tools, such as blackboard, voice and video transmittal. This kind of software is good at discussing idea, but it's difficult to discuss the design, the result is even more impossible for the common design modifications. Aiming at the problem that collaborative software separated with modeling process, this dissertation presents a new software system which based on HOOPS/Net and combined with 3D modeling software. This system realized cooperative modeling which shows the modeling process to all the co-workers. The main contributions of the thesis may be summarized as follows:1. Realizing cooperative modeling by associating ACIS with HOOPS/Net. Real-time interaction about graphics in our collaborative system is realized by using HOOPS/net, and 3D modeling function is realized by using ACIS. The combination makes the human-human interaction in designing come true.2. Choosing the collaborative frame which based on C/S pattern and divide work for server and client .The server takes charge of message handling and managing work for system .The clients take charge of man-machine interaction, 3D modeling, message-building and transferring. Working stress of server and network flux has been reduced in this way.3. Server support several projects and manage clients involved by work group managing and client authorization. These reduced cost of system applying and improve the security of the system.4. Dealing with conflict in cooperative modeling with control right translation. In this system only one client can change model at the same time,while others are just watching .When someone wants to change the model, he should ask for control first and then waits for the other client release control. The client can change model till he got control right.
