The Computer, communication and multimedia technology is widely applied to many fields. It becomes a crying need and an inevitable trend to develop modern distance education by using computer and network technology. Furthermore, with the development of Internet and Intranet in several directions and China's cross-century educational system reform, modern distance education becomes an important strategic policy for the development of education.Examination is an important aspect in education. Compared with the traditional examination, the network examination system based on B/S has many advantages. It can not only save huge human and material resources, but also improve the efficiency and quality of examination. So it is an important means to guarantee the quality of teaching. The main contributions of this paper include the research, design and implementation of the network examination system based on B/S. The general contents of the thesis are summarized as follows:1. In chapter 1, it analyzes the current situation of the network examination system, and introduces the development process of the network examination system. Then it analyzes the state of the technology. Because of the lack of current network examination system and the present technology, a network examination system based on B/S is proposed, which can provide a set of excellent features.2. In chapter 2, it introduces the theory of item bank from education measure and statistics aspects. Then it compares the item reflection theory with the classical measure theory, which provides a theory basis for this thesis. Finally it presents the correlation-coefficient method in detail.3. In chapter 3, UML and RUP are summarized, and then it compares the traditional J2EE and the lightweight J2EE. Finally it makes detailed introductions to the Struts, Spring and Hibernate technology.4. In chapter 4, various system models are built by using UML and RUP. It presents a four-layer system architecture based on Struts, Spring and Hibernate. It also provides the diagram of the system structure and the design of the database.5. In chapter 5, the network examination system is designed and realized. Take the evaluation subsystem for instance, the design and implementation processes are demonstrated at length. Finally, it presents the experimental results of the correlation-coefficient method, and the results show that the system is effective and practical.6. In the last chapter, firstly it summarizes the main work of the thesis. Then it points out insufficiencies and future research direction.
