Automatic Switched Optical Networks (ASON) has been one of the most promising technology innovations with intelligent control. As the most important part of ASON, the control technologies have been the hotspots in optical network research since it was recommended by ITU-T. With the cooperation of three standards bodies, ITU-T, IETF and OIF, the framework of ASON is being repeatedly amended and extended to be standardized. It becomes necessary that the carriers establish dynamic services via varieties of networks using the same procedure. Each carrier can conveniently take their own policy, including connection policy, services acceptances policy, routing policy and so on, by E-NNI interfaces and accomplish the control of end-to-end connection between multi-domains.Signaling, the executive of automatic connection set-up, release, modification and maintenance, plays an important part in ASON. The thesis, which gives a detailed description of the inter-domain signaling in ASON, contains four parts: (1) The design scheme is proposed for the purpose of simulating the inter-domain signaling in different ASON networks; (2) The interface between CC and RC module is defined and accomplished; (3) The complexity and connectivity of network that effect on inter-domain signaling is analyzed; (4) The differences between inter-domain and intra-domain signaling are compared.Chapter 1 of this book gives an overview of ASON technologies and introduces the inter-domain mechanism in ASON. Chapter 2 focuses on the commonly used RSVP-TE signaling mechanism that can be extended in inter-domain environment. Chapter 3 represents the details of E-NNI interface, including its definition, specifications and so on. Chapter 4 concentrates on the implementation of RSVP-TE based E-NNI at OPNET platform, and the simulation results are analyzed.
