The Enlightenment For Establishing Chinese Chemical Abstracts Database From American Chemical Abstracts

American Chemical Abstracts is comparatively an integrated chemical abstracts in the world at present, it is one of the important bibliographical tools of searching technology bibliographical information and it has influence on many countries. The Abstracts which started publication in 1907 has been made to be an organic whole by kinds of index, and it could quickly search for any volume, any period and any abstract in a short time. It is obvious that CA is an available bibliographical tool for the workers of science and technology.In the last century, CA had experienced lots forms such as, printing edition, shrinking edition, compact-disc edition, magnetic tape edition and online edition, and network edition. The ways of searching had been changing from by hand to by computer, from bibliography information inspect to physical structure, reactive research, from providing abstract information to providing structure information, 3D model information ,business information, full text information, etc; from solo to difference banks. The feature and function of CA network edition—SciFinder is that it represent the trend of development of global abstract database under the internet.The model of development of CA provided a fine suggestive model to our Chinese chemical abstracts database. Therefore, it's necessary to refer to the model of CA to establish Chinese chemical abstracts database.This paper is divided into five parts.The first is to induce characteristic and retrieval mode of the printing edition of American Chemical Abstracts.The second is to summarize the usefulness and limitation of the CD plate of American Chemical Abstracts.The third is to induce the network edition of American Chemical Abstracts is prior to the others.The forth is to analysis the development and innovation of American Chemical Abstracts at first. Then compare it with some of Chinese chemical abstracts bibliographical tools to find out the disadvantages.The last is to analysis the results to summarize CA as one of the most important searching tools has some success experiences. During the development of CA mode to develop the chemical abstracts database of our country.During the last analysis, it expatiated the reformation based on multi-edition of CA that the searches of CA is developed from traditional chemistry book to Internet retrieval, summarizes the success experience of CA. The intention is to find the way to construct the chemistry literature database of our country.
