The Research And Application Of XML-based Data Warehouse Multi-dimensional Model

With the development of the requirement of the decision and management information in enterprise, the traditional database system can't be satisfactory to the clients. Data warehouse and OLAP(Online Analytical Processing) are the new technologies of database and information processing to deal with the problem. Data model is one of the key problems of data warehouse. And many learns proved that traditional Relation Data Models couldn't effectively describe the structure and semantic of data warehouse applications, and couldn't meet the requirement of OLAP's applications also. Because the OLAP is multidimensional, the multidimensional data modeling techniques attract human's general attentions and wide interests.XML(Extensible Markup Language) is a group of criterion designed by W3C. It is a meta-language for creating Markup Language, which is the subsets of SGML, designing the standard, extensible and universal data format. This paper taking the PDX Platform as the application background builds up an enterprise data warehouse's multi-dimensional model to provide excellent data for decision support.This thesis first elaborates the emergence and development of data warehousing, introduces the key technology of data warehouse and XML, including the architecture of the data warehouse, the related theory of OLAP, multi-dimensional data models, data mining, and DTD, XML Schemas, XSLT, etc. Then it analyzes the operation demanding for PDX Platform data warehouse module, on the base of researching the CWM, designing the CWM-based data warehouse architecture. It brings up four title fields and accordant dimension tables to Power System dispatching data warehouse. For every title field ,we provide the dimensional model using Star Schema or Snowflake Schema, also provide the dimension tables and fact table particularly. Finally, combining with the technology of XML ,we describe the data cube with XML Schema, also, with the oriented-object method, it turns the data warehouse into storehouse of the data cube and OLAP function. The project assures the stability, agility and expansibility for the data warehouse system, accommodating to the demand of the present Web application.
