We have been in an information era since late twentieth century. As the source and the base of the information, data is the most essential part of the enterprises. This is recognized by most organizations. As we have learned, data supports everyday business transaction and decision making of many companies, it also supports the production line of many manufactures. Since an organization not managing their data well will soon be out of business, organizations are serious in protecting their data. There are a number of actions that organizations take to protect data against loss, damage and theft. A common approach is to duplicate data and store the copy at other locations. Because of the requirement of data sharable, many organizations begin shift their data storage to the network. Thus, network data storage and backup become a new topic facing modern enterprises.Based on the requirement of simple, effective and reliable data storage in modern organizations, this thesis introduce three storage structures DAS, NAS and SAN commonly used in many enterprises, analyze their advantages and disadvantages, suggest the solution of combining NAS and SAN, Forecast the future use of IP SAN. Furthermore, by examine an example from a manufacture's network rebuilding project, the thesis shows how a enterprise use DAS, NAS and SAN flexibly to satisfy their own needs. Also, some problems in the current solution are addressed and an alternative solution is promoted. Finally, because organization data will accumulate quickly and cost should be controlled, near storage solution is presented. Its performing method and virtue are described in brief.
