Oil monitoring technology is one of monitoring and diagnosis technology used widely in industry. Oil monitoring takes on the varied state from technology development and technology flow, the configuration of different testing instruments are more delicate according to monitoring function. Although each instrument has high-degree automatization, each instrument is isolated in physics from other instruments. If one person wants to analyse, diagnose or build the technology report for the data acquired by an instrument, the data need to be recorded and processed by himself. The distribution of the instruments is separated in the lab. There is no effective management to the instruments. It makes technicians very inconvenient in data processing, fault diagnosis, instruments management and so on.The oil monitoring center of Wuhan University of Technology is selected as the research platform. This study adopts the advanced technologies such as computer, network, database to conduct the task of data acquisition of automatic oil monitoring lab. A kind of networking method has been proposed, which is based on protocol conversion module of Nport5110 of MOXA Company. Networking data acquisition methods of different instruments have been studied as well. Many oil monitoring collection approaches are studied based on network. Because most monitoring instruments have data output interface in different monitoring lab, the data collection, conversion and transfer program corresponding to output devices and interfaces is developed to transfer data from oil monitoring device into the remote database according with the trait of different kind of monitoring devices and data output interfaces. People can manually input data in the database as well. The oil monitoring database based on SQL Server is established. The oil monitoring database management system based on Client/Server(C/S) is designed to manage the oil monitoring data, device and oil sample standards. The database reserves a function that becomes a database management system based on advanced Browse/Server (B/S). The network user can browse, modify, update and edit the data resource. This manage system has user's limit access function in order to prevent user from transcending the limit access to manage the data resource. In a conclusion, this study has explored a new way to automate the oil-monitoring lab.Nowadays, all kind of instruments are separated in the oil monitoring lab. It is a development bottleneck of oil monitoring lab to congruously manage the instruments and monitor the instruments' state and intactness online. Along with the workload escalating in the lab, the demand of data collection using network among analytic equipments is more and more urgent. That the instrument data is saved concentratively and collected automatically will offer an essential foundation for expert system and fault diagnose. This will be an important direction in the future.
