A series of difficulties caused by the narrow dynamic operating range of gyroscopes can be avoided in GFSINS (gyroscope free strapdown inertial navigation system), but a notable disadvantage is a great deal of calculation. SINS based on DSP solved this problem. The emphasis of this paper is hardware design of GFSINS based on DSP.The article first briefed necessity of DSP application in SINS and research present state, narrated the process of system project design and chip selection, summarized structure and character of DSP. The article focused on introduction of hardware and software design of GFSINS. The system employed TMS320C6713 of TI as digital signal processor, which is 32-bit, floating-point, high-performance DSP with double floating-point calculation. The part of hardware circuit design included power supply unit, clock unit, power monitor and reset unit, data acquisition unit, external memory interface unit, communication to pc unit and design of CPLD. The part of software design included program of all hardware units and transplant of GFSINS algorithm routine. This paper introduced the process of PCB placement and route and followed rule in detail, the principle signal integrity and proposed detailed measures enhanced SI performance of GFSINS. The paper finally introduced second-stage boot loader to ram and code burn to flash.The GFSINS with TMS320C6713 as coral digital signal processor realized basic function required by system by far, enhanced integrity and calculation speed, while volume and cost were reduced and the ratio between capability and price was improved, which made GFSINS could be applied in the practical engineering.
