Now days the technology of image-based rendering is a very important approach of virtual environment construction, and it has simplified the traditional way of complicated geometry-based modeling and rendering, so it is more realistic and faster rendering. On the basis of pictures, people can wander around in virtual environment, use the image processing technology to mosaic an isolated sequence of real scene images and organize them to apanorama that can reflect completely scene information by re-projection.Because of the wide prospect of IBR technology, many researchers have proposed lots of methods, and have optimized them. This paper begins from the base of virtual environment—the theory of image rendering, and explains the principle of imaging and the process of camera's movement, also demonstrates the model of image's transform. It emphasizes on the feature-based image mosaic and the phase correlation-based image mosaic and log-polar coordinates mapping-based image mosaic. The algorithm of KLT track is put forward based on the method of feature-based image mosaic, which can improve the precise of mosaic. It is brought forward that combines the logarithm-polar coordinates with the method of drawing the corners, which gets rid of the complicated methods of pyramid search in the logarithm-polar coordinates, and shorten the time of search. Also the paper gives some details of image revising and image fuse and image mapping, etc.Following the method of cylinder wandering, we discuss some key problems in the sphere wandering when traveling in virtual environment. At last we make a panorama image using the method of image processing with a sequence of pictures, and achieve to walk in the virtual environment.
