In the 90s of 20th century, a new technology was proposed to build virtual environment. Image-based rendering intends to achieve more realistic and faster rendering and to simplify the modeling task by depending on the modeling data from images. It provides a shortcut for modeling subtle scene.IBR has spurred many researcher's interest, and lots of methods have been proposed. This new field has been formed, and become a new orientation of the confluence of computer vision and graphics. This paper surveys the start-of-the-art in image-based rendering techniques, discussing the fundamental principles behind each technique, their strengths and limitations. We emphasize on building panorama, and also the classification and application of panorama. We implement a fast method to build the panorama based on phase correlation. The experiments show nice results, meanwhile we will talk about how to browse a panorama on a web page.Image mosaic is the key of building panorama, and is the basic technique in image-based rendering. It was widely used in many field including 360 degree mapping of virtual environment, robots technology and space mapping. This paper compare two primary methods, and proposed a efficient way which using features to automatically implement image mosaic. To gain a fine correspondences is very important for feature based method, so the position constraint is introduced to refine the matches, and RANSAC is used to estimate coefficients. Furthermore, the overlap area will be detected by advance registration, so the feature detection and match are performed in the overlap area, which takes more efficient calculation and exact match. When projecting images to the reference plane, we adopt inverse warping to avoid "hole", and uninteger coordination will be got by bilinear interplation. The problem about how to eliminate the blur caused by imprecise registration and exposure differences and remove the ghosting due to moving objects.
