Embedded system, which is application-oriented, is a kind of computer system, with its software and hardware capable of being reduced. Recently it has been widely used in the field of industrial automation. With the fast development of information technology, the Ethernet communication technology has begun to be applied in industrial control and embedded system design, thus industrial Ethernet has gradually taken shape. The key technology of embedded industrial Ethernet is how to implement TCP/IP protocol during node control module at the field level. This paper, upon conducting a detailed research and summary of the software and hardware of ARM (LPC2210) embedded system and TCP/IP protocol, has succeeded in designing a Ethernet-based remote control system of DC motor. This paper firstly reviews developments made in network control, and analyzes the feasibility and development trend of Ethernet applied in industrial control. Several methods of DC motor speed control then are devised, and they are simulated by means of Matlab/Simulink, which contributes to the steady curve. This article lastly introduces the integrated architecture of this remote control system and the designs of hardware and software. The whole control system adopts the C/S architecture, and with respect to the field controller the plan of ARM+uC/OS-II is chosen. By probing into TCP/IP, TCP/IP is reduced, amended and realized layeredly in uC/OS-II according to the need of the system. The remote control and communication software, developed by VC6.0 under the platform of Windows, has convenient operation interface. It can communicate directly with the designed field controller of DC motor through Ethernet and change the control parameters of DC motor, with the state of DC motor displayed in this developed software. Consequently based on this, the paper has designed a feedback control circuit, which realizes its control of speed of DC motor by making use of PWM of LPC2210.
