Surface plasma resonance is an optical-electrical phenomenon caused by the interaction of the incident light and the electron of thin mental lay. Since sensors based on principle of SPR were put forward, lots of work was done on them, and these sensors were primarily used in some area. In this paper, the SPR system based on phase modulation was studied, that include the principia, the system and improvement on them. The specific works are as followings:Firstly, the study history of SPR was reviewed and the basic principle of SPR was elaborated in the paper. Then, according to the Kretschmann inspiration model, under the supervise of Fresnel formula, numerical simulation was done to discuss the mechanism of SPR sensor with phase modulation, at the same time, it's performance and affecting factors were analyzed. It indicated that SPR sensor with phase modulation have some advantages over other modulation style. The method to detect phase change through interference is suggested.Secondly, according to the principle of SPR with phase modulation, taken Michael interferometer as reference model, designed a set of experiment structure, simple experiment was carried out, the result of experiment was analyzed, method of image processing and its source program in Matlab language was give out. At the same time, experiment system was analyzed to find out its improvement project.Then, a newly system which named common-optical-path polarization interferometer was suggested, components of the system were designed to detect SPR phase change, bring phase modulation by wollaston prism, method to demodulate the phase was presented.At last, according to the basic principles of SPR, the principle of distributed SPR sensor and was presented, also the principle of optical filtering which based on SPR. After that, different structure of distributed SPR sensor and optical filter are designed, and their properties, affecting factors, control method and optimal design of their performance were under discussion.
