Currently, domestic Computerized numerical control system (CNC)'s corporation usually uses standard computer ISA bus architecture as their internal bus.ISA bus's virtue is that it is simple and credible, but ISA bus is low in speed and small in bandwidth, which was replaced by PCI bus. Because of PCI bus'wide bandwidth and highly speed and highly dissemination, developping CNC based on PCI bus has become a inevitable trend.In market there are two kinds of proposals, one is Asic, for instanse PLX9052 chip, Asic's shortcoming is that its cost is high and it is not flexible , the other is PCI CORE which is based on FPGA.its virtue is that the cost is low and its expansibility is very good.The research of this subject utilize the characteristic of FPGA, high integrated level, small volume, low consumption, high dependability and online revising. And procedure design methods of VHDL language is also used with design, convenient revise, nice portability, to design PCI CORE of our own. Then we connect PCI CORE which is used to transform signal from PCI bus to ISA bus with local logic and then write to the same chip to achieve low cost and high efficiency, and implement transformation from ISA bus to PCI bus.The first chapter of this paper summarizes current situation and development of CNC and PCI CORE. The second chapter gives a brief description of LT-CNC. The third chapter introduces the design and implementation of PCI CORE, which is the most important part of the paper.The fourth chapter is about the developing cource of PCI driver. Last chapter introduces test program theory, content and so on.This subject is the sub-subject of knowledge innovation project of Chinese Academy of Sciences in the period of the State's Tenth Five-Year Plan that is open and intelligent systematic platform of numerical control. The achievement of the project has been applied already.
