With the computer network technology mature and the scale unceasing expansion, the computer network presents the recent tendency of development. On the one hand, the network scale is fast extending, network applications are more complex and multiplying, On the other hand, the heterogeneous network requires more flexibility and scalability. The complexity and the heterogeneity of computer network requires the intelligent,automatic and efficient network management capability.Currently, most network management systems operate SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocol) which based on a Manager-Agent model. In certain circumstances, this model has a lot of shortcomings both in flexibility and intelligence. Therefore the traditional centralised system devoids of the ability of managing complex and heterogeneous networks.Since the 1990s, Agent increasingly becomes the one of the terms used most frequently in a variety of computer documents and technical development plans of many companies. Agent technology is a hot research area of the current computer applications, and the research about agent become rising increasingly, which is one of the goals and trends of the future technology development. Artificial intelligence and network technology development contributed to the development of Agent technologies, which provide a new calculation method to solve complex, dynamic, distributed smart applications. Agent has characteristics of mobility and intelligence. If unifies agent with the network management technology it can greatly enhance the network management system the flexibility and scalability; improve the performance of the entire network management system.Firstly, this dissertation reviewed the development history and development status of network management research based on mobile agent, and then introduced the related concepts and the technologies of the network management highlighting the network management system structure and its protocol. And then elaborated the related theory and the technical detail of mobile agent, has carried on the classified introduction regarding mobile agent in the network management several function fields, proposed the network management system frame model based on mobile agent.Finally, described the design and implementation of network performance monitor system based on mobile agent, it has included the system overall structure design and each part details design and implementation. One part is key point which is the design and implementation of data acquisition system based On the mobile agent.
