Along with the rapid development of computer network technology, new equipment, agreement and service of network appear constantly. The maintenance and management of network are facing new challenge. Traditional central network management already could not satisfy the need of large-scale complex network. The appearance of mobile agent technology enables it to develop that is distributional intellectualized network management based on mobile agent and provides the new solution for network management.Network performance monitoring is an important component of network management, so network performance monitoring based on mobile agent has a good application prospect. Good deployment strategy can promote the overall performance of network performance monitoring system. Therefore, the research on mobile agent deployment strategy is very important.On the foundation of concept and development tendency of network management and mobile agent being introduced, mobile agent deployment strategy in network performance monitoring process is mainly discussesed in this paper.Firstly, the general model of network performance monitoring and the frame of network performance monitoring system based on mobile agent are proposed. Secondly, Area Dividing Strategy is improved in several insufficiencies, and Function Distinguishing in the Area Strategy is proposed.The advantage of Function Distinguishing in the Area Strategy is that mobile agents are classified addcording to function, internal logic of mobile agent is simplified, the situation is avoided that agent carries a large number of data in the migration process, the migration cost is reduced effectively and the efficiency of agent deployment is enhanced greatly. Finally, performance analysis and comparison are made between two strategies on monitoring flow and response time, respective superiority and applicable scope of two strategies are summarized, and that is proved througth network simulation further.
