With the development and broadly application of Internet, the growing complexity of network and telecommunication requires more advanced network management model and technology. In this case, the traditional centered network management does not satisfy the requirements of modern network management. The mobile agent is a new distributed technology which is broadly used in e-commerce, network management and web-based information collection and distribution . Specially, the network management based on mobile agent has been always the hotspot of research in this field. This thesis presents a hybrid environment where network management application uses mobile agents to interact with SNMP agent via SNMP protocol. The prototype implementation is also discussed in IBM Aglet. And this hybrid system includes three parts: mobile agent application, interface of mobile agent and SNMP application , SNMP application. Some important technology of system is also analyzed detailedly and implemented in Aglet. Meanwhile, the development method of Object-Oriented and design pattern technology are successfully used to develop the function modules of system so that the architecture of system is very flexible and scalable. In the part of SNMP application , a standard SNMP agent is developed by encapsulating SNMP protocol and defining a private MIB base. The interoperability between mobile agent and SNMP protocol is the difficulty of the hybrid system architecture research in this thesis. This thesis presents a new solution which uses design patterns (Meeting pattern and Adapter pattern) to solve this question. And the detailed implementation is also given in Aglet platform. The security is another difficulty of mobile agent application. After giving the detailed analysis for the security of mobile agent, together with the characteristic of network management, this thesis proposes a signature-based authentication for the security of system, makes a detailed discussion of public key distribution in this solution. Otherwise, the clock synchronization is also introduced to protect agent from replay attack in this solution. In addition, the Aglets policies file is also extended in order to supply the better access control mechanism for mobile agent. Specially, the firewalls rules are also considered to prevent agent from the attack based on SNMP protocol.
