Because of its widely application in the military and civilianarea, synthetic aperture radar has received more and more recognition. Thefast development of SAR technology and unceasing improvement of SARimage' s resolution make the amount and transfer rate of SAR echo dataincrease continuously, the existing data recorder cannot satisfy therecording requirement anymore. It has been an emphasis and difficulty inSAR system implementation that how to develop a new data recorder withlarger capacity and faster record speed, and it is one of the keytechnologies in SAR development.This paper is based on the research work of the SAR data recorder. Itintroduces the basic knowledge of SAR and the current development and trendof high speed data recorder firstly. And then several data recordingtechnologies which are widely used in data recording system are introduced,the interfaces of storage device and buses which are usually used for systemdesign are discussed. The structure of PCI Express (Abbreviated for PCIEbellow) bus used in this system is explained specially. Based on theresearch of current structure of the data recorder, a new data recordingsystem based on PCIE bus structure is put forward, and implementation ofthe system is discussed in detail. A lots of research work about SAR highspeed data recording system is discussed from theory and practice in thispaper.A real-time data recording system of SAR echo based on PCI Express busis designed and implemented based on the former research. The system usesa common PC computer as the development platform and is made up of datatransfer card, SCSI RAID controller and disk array. The data transfer card based on PCIE and SCSI RAID controller is integrated into the PC computer,which is used for control data transfer. The disk array made up of severalSCSI hard disks is used as the storage device. The special interface chipPEX8311 of PLX corporation implement PCIE bus interface logic of the PCIEdata transfer card. The ping-pang switching of two FIFOs used for databuffer on the PCIE data transfer card and serial storage technique of sharedbuffer in the PC computer's memory guarantee continuous data receiving.The SCSI RAID controller is based on 64 bits, 133 MHz PCI-X bus and is usedfor read-write control of the SCSI disk array. The WDM driver of PCIEtransfer card is developed to control DMA used for data transfer and theresponse of interrupt. The application based on dialog box of the systemis developed to control system' s work and to provide a convenient interfacefor the user.Now, the system has been used for the debug and test of XX-7 satellite'sSAR sub-system successfully. In the real application, the system worksstably and the data recorded is reliable. The continuous recording speedof the system canreach 100MB/s.
