With the development of electric power system towards high voltage, large units and large capacity, there is a much higher demand for the reliability of electric power equipment .Because temperature is an important parameter to electric power system, monitoring this parameter can contribute to fault diagnosis and elimination timely, to ensure electric power equipment operation safely.Based on MCS-51 single-chip processor, a temperature monitoring system for electric power equipment, which adopted a differential mechanism and intensity-sensitivity optical fiber sensor, was designed. It has many advantages such as disconnecting high-voltage , resisting strong electromagnetic interference, simple in structure, small in volume and high rate of quality to price .It owns some functional items which include temperature real-time displaying, over- limit alarming, real-time data storing and serial communication.The main content of this thesis is as follows:First, the thesis reviews the current situation about temperature measurement technique applied to electric power equipment. Meanwhile, the method of temperature measurement for the designed monitoring system is determined. Then, the sensor and all functional modules is designed, it's especially careful to design the data acquisition and handle module. At last, according to analysis results of experiment for testing the designed monitoring system, the thesis points the system's disadvantages that can be improved and prospects the further research of the topic.
