With the development of higher education informatization, the rapid growth of information has brought many new problems in data transmission and storage, especially different types of data have been generated by a large number of different services . It was used by different applications which were established in different periods with different functions. In universities, the system of departments is not conducive to integrate different data systems to provide new information, and the data users hope to see all the data and information.In response to this series of questions, the paper presents the idea of building a data platform for university based on data warehousing. The data platform is used for collecting, processing, storing all kinds of data and supplying the information share services for the whole campus. It carries out the data integration of each MIS (Management Information System), guarantees the consistency of the whole school share information, and provides the support for the valid decision and the new MIS development.Recently, data warehousing is a developing database technology. It supports decision by taking useful information out of the data via restructuring, extracting, mining and analyzing .The architecture of data warehousing, the strategic of the development and design, the method of achievement the data warehouse, and the techniques of the extracting, transforming and loading of the data are been expounded and illustrated in the paper. After the analysis of storing and using the present data in universities, the paper gives the structure of data sharing platform, analyzes and realizes the core technical problems such as information specification, design of data platform, data integration, ETL design, OLAP.
