With the development of the design and application technology of CMOS integrated circuits, low power design is one of the most important research issues. Especially for Digital/Analog mixed circuits---A/D converting circuits, the requirements for converting precision and speed are becoming more and more, leading to more requirements for low power dissipation. For SoC device design, the power consumption of A/D converters has become the threshold. In a word, according to the Moore's law for the device technology, low power issue has become the key point for hybrid signal circuits. The article made the analysis and application research for the low power consumption issue for the CMOS integrated circuits based onΣ-ΔA/D converters. SinceΣ-Δmodulator is the kernel of the A/D converter, the article paid emphasis on analysis and design of a low-powerΣ-Δmodulator. The key issues of the article are: Firstly, made a research on principles and structures of the sigma-delta modulator circuits. Secondly, analyzed various parameters affected power dissipation and then derived a power dissipation expression. Finally, on the basis of power analysis, a 14-bit 2-2Σ-Δmodulator is designed with oversampling technology and compared with other applications according to FOM(Figure of Merit).
