Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is great treasure in the culture of China, but as we all know, knowledge base in TCM is huge and complicated. If we want to devote ourselves to the research of TCM, and make full use of it, also push it to a brighter stage, first of all, we should normalize terminology in it, meanwhile, to create a large and formalized ontology for the domain of TCM. Once built, we may use it as guide for knowledge processing of natural language. Then TCMLS (TCM Language System) emerges as needed.Firstly, an ontology builder based on web application will be introduced, in which technologies of Web2.0 are adopted, and the framework of Spring is also well used. The objectives of this platform are to provide high quality ontology data, also to supply with good user experience. Till now, TCMLS has been the biggest ontology in the domain of traditional medicine in the world. It has 16 first-level classes, and totally, 12862 classes have been created, and 81811 instances have been added. Then some TCMLS-oriented tools will be covered. Data export as RDF/OWL has been implemented; customized data export for access is also finished; and integration of multiple standard TCM data with visualized search and index engine is under the way. Finally, application for TCMLS will be emphasized. We may focus on the application in the platform of data sharing of TCM, and platform of scientific data construction in TCM, which are the other two major TCM-Oriented projects. Apart from that, TCMLS provides a huge word collection, which can be used Chinese word segment algorithm.Totally, the evolution of development and application for TCM will be focused in this paper.
