Research And Application Of Ontology Evolution Methods And Mechanism

Internet is becoming the most important means which people acquire knowledge, Most of the information is expressed in the form of people's understanding while intelligent agent software can not understand and cope with these information. The potential of the Internet is far from what it is. For it, Tim Berners-Lee, the Internet's initiator, think of the semantic web idea of next generation of the Internet. It's the extent of the current web, and it brings a bright future for the Internet. It's aim is to make information order, make computer understand information and cope with people harmoniously. Semantic web's framework is composed of multiple layers, on the Semantic web, information is expressed in structural form and ontology expresses the semantic form. Ontology is also located in layer which between document description and knowledge reasoning. And it is of vital importance for semantic web. It can be used to interpret and map between systems and realize the interoperability, share and reuse the knowledge, support the formal description and reasoning and etc. In the meantime, ontology is widely used in many fields, such as information system, knowledge management. So it is of very important significance for the semantic web's development to do research on ontology and related problems.While it is a very complicated problem to develop and maintain ontology, it is also a dynamic process. There are many changes during the application of ontology, such as application environment's change, conception change, share model change etc. They all cause the conflicts and inconsistent, influence the valid of ontology. In order to share and reuse the ontology, we should make corresponding change according to all kinds of changes, that is to do research on ontology evolution process, realize the valid and consistent of ontology. This paper trys to do some research on ontology evolution from the view of ontology versioning management.This paper introduces the background of the problem firstly, and the significance of studying the problem deeply, summarizes the relevant knowledge about ontology, gives a comprehensive introduction of ontology, including original, ontology description languages, edit tools and the relation to semantic web. It emphasizes on the semantic expression on semantic web or other semantic problems, analyzes the KAON prototypesystem and describe the ontology evolution function, discusses the common process and evolution framework of ontology evolution problems, brings forward the ontology versioning management framework, from the point of application, analyzes the ontology evolution and ontology versioning management of individuation publication based on ontology. It summarizes the whole paper and gives a farther research prospects lastly.
