Implementation Of Electronic Program Guide In Digital TV Set-Top-Box

At present, Digital Television has developed rapidly, so the number of programs which service provider could provide will have a large increase. How to find the program which user want from numerous digital television programs quickly became a problem that must be resolved in application. Generally, EPG is used in DVB receiver to achieve the intent of looking up programs rapidly. Through EPG, user can know about the related information of programs (include start time, duration, content view, etc), and realize the fast searching and interviewing to program.This article tells the background of EPG occurs, basic concept, character and the application which is in the TV system of DVB. Creating EPG by using SI in DVB system, and program mapping by MPEG-2 PSI and transfer throught MPEG-2 TS. Introducing the basic knowledge, structure and EPG'creating of DVB system. The author designs a model of EPG on the basis of DVB standard, and expatiates the realization of each function module in detail.A solution of the software design, including the relationship of the program operation module and other system software modules and the inner structure of the program operation module is presented in this paper. In view of that the Set Top Box designed in our project takes aim at the DVB standard, so both the MPEG-2 system layer standard and the SI protocol of the DVB standard are analyzed and researched, considering the functions required of the program operation module. Not only the whole scheme and layered structure of the module are drawn up, but also the program database and all data structures related to it are designed. Finally, the software development of the program operation and management module is successfully accomplished, using the newly designed STB board as the hardware platform. The functions expected for the design of the STB are mostly realized in the system software, which is made up of the program operation module and other system modules.
