With the rapid development of electronic, network and communication technology, video and audio have entered digital stage, and international standard organization has developed a series of international standards such as MPEG-1, MPEG-2and MPEG-4. As the newest international standard, MPEG-4 not only has a very high coding efficiency, but also has very wide areas of applications. Different from other coding standards, MPEG-4 does not specify detail transmission method, so study of effective transmission methods for MPEG-4 is crucialIt is under this background that this paper first carries out researches on transmission of MPEG-4 video using MPEG-2 transport stream (TS) and proposes a method of multiplexing one or more MPEG-4 video element streams (ES) with MPEG-4 TS. Aiming at the problem that MPEG-2 TS is developed to solely transport MPEG-2 video and audio, and does not support MPEG-4, this paper expands the MPEG-2 TS according to related literature and designs concrete realization algorithms. The algorithms can also multiplex one or more MPEG-4 system streams containing only video into MPEG-2 TS. Secondly, the paper analyzes the technological details of MPEG-4 DMIF (multimedia convey frame), and works out a way to realize MPEG-4 DMIF using MPEG-2 TS and IP networks.All algorithms proposed in this paper has been coded in VC++ 6.0, and the effectiveness of these algorithms are verified using MPEG-2 TS analysis tools.
