H.264/AVC is newest video coding standard of the ITU-T Video Coding Experts Group and the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group. H.264 can save approximately a 50% bit rate for equivalent perceptual quality relative to the existing standards. With new techniques, H.264 can efficiently improve video compression performance. But unfortunately these techniques also will increase computational complexity considerably. Therefore, reducing computational complexity and improving code rate became the key of our study. Currently, the implementation of video encoder is as follows: 1. video encoder software on PC. However, PC it is not dedicated in video data processing; 2. Using dedicated ASIC chip for video coding; 3. Video encoder based on programmable digital media processor, such as DSP. The hardware structure of DSP processor is especially designed for multimedia data processing. Not only plentiful multimedia data processing instructions are available, but also it is more flexible for implementation of video encoder than ASIC chip. The H.264 encoder implemented by this paper is based on DSP DM642, a product of TI.The emphasis of this paper is enhancing the efficiency of the encoder while keep the image quality and a reasonable bit rate. Generally speaking, optimization may be divided into two steps: first, algorithm... |
