Undoubtedly, the Internet has brought a great revolution to the media industry. As a tool of information dissemination, the media website integrates various types of media mode, realizing the compatibility of both interpersonal and mass media communication. Compared with the traditional media, the media website distinguishes itself with its basic characteristics of openness and interactiveness. The media website utilizes some special interactive tools ,for instance, email chat room online investigation and BBS to publish audiences' talks and to realize the interactivity between the audiences and the media, and among the audiences themselves.The thesis deals with two most representative media websites: people.com in China and Washingtonpost.com in the United States. Through comparative studies in various interactive tools of these two major media websites, the thesis tries to investigate the interactive level and the differences between the two media websites. The thesis contributes to the understanding of the interactive level and the differences of the media websites between China and the United States.
