Individual network storage system has many advantages that the general portable storage facilities do not have and it has been very popular with many people. The existing individual network storage system can not meet the storage requirements of those who work in an enterprise. The individual network disk system described in this paper, which combines the advantages of virtual disk of LAN and Web storage space of WAN, will supply users of an enterprise with an easy used storage space with large capacity. The paper firstly describes the whole design of the system, which introduce the architecture, the division of the function modules and the process flow of the system. The server side of the system consists of a storage subsystem, a storage service, and a login service, a load-balancing service, etc. This paper will introduce the design of the several modules in turn and lastly introduce the design of the interfaces of these modules. The storage capacity of the system needs several or even more than ten TBs. The traditional storage technology can hardly sustains this requirement. This paper introduces the evolution of the storage models and draws a conclusion that using iSCSI SAN to be the storage subsystem through the analysis and comparison of the advantages and disadvantages of the storage technologies. The main function of the storage service is responding the request of data access from the client and reading or writing the users'data stored in iSCSI SAN. The storage service supports data access based on both block and file to meet the different request of data access. Besides, the storage service should also provide an interface of load-balancing to implement the load-balancing and error allowance of a cluster of storage servers. The load-balancing service supports two kinds of load-balancing. One is load-balancing of the storage servers when a user logs in. The other is that it can calculate the visiting load of every iSCSI SAN virtual volume and adjust the storage place of users'data according to the statistic and eventually the storage servers reach to load-balancing.The login service is the only one that a user can visit before the user logs in the system. The service is responsible for a user's authentication and selecting a suitable storage server for the user's client. The client that uses the protocol based on block access uses TCP/IP to communicate with the...
