With the rapid development and maturity of embedded technology, the development of online monitoring and diagnostic intelligent systems has become a major field of embedded industry. Real-time monitoring of industrial environment and equipment running states can be performed by collecting, processing and analyzing all kinds of information on the spot. This leads to higher production security, energy efficiency and economic benefit. An integrated digital camera module that includes sampling, storing and processing of images and videos is implemented in our work. The components of the digital camera module are introduced in the first part, together with the functionalities of these components and their relationship. Then a design scheme that utilizes NIOS II, which is one of Altera's SOPC, and a DSP chip to execute the algorithms is put forward.SOPC, which is a flexible and high efficient on-chip system design scheme, is applied in the digital camera design field. The adoption of various IP-cores guarantees high efficiency and speed in the design process. The flexibility of SOPC design can satisfy all kinds of customer requirements, since it enables the designers to construct customized module functions with little hardware modification. The combination of dual-DSP architecture and SOPC design greatly improves extensibility of the module. In addition to video transportation, this module can be extended to satisfy more comprehensive requirements, such as sampling of sound, temperature, pressure and flow data.
