With the rapid development of Cable TV industry, the alteration and aggregation of Cable TV network, development of new business, and expansion of service area need an information system for facility management. Many Cable TV operators have developed GIS-based applications, which bring them more managerial effectiveness. However, there are several challenges in system design and implementation when geographic infonnation technology is introduced. Geospatial data model design and standardization for facilities is critical for enterprise level data sharing and application development. Considering this, this paper attempts to construct a formal data model in ESRI Geodatabase using universal markup language (UML). It is expected to not only design a practical geospatial data model for Cabal TV facilities, but also examine the technical procedures for related applications.Based on the review of AM/FM/GIS technology, GIS spatial data model and Cable TV GIS applications, this paper made a case study of Xinxiang Broadcasting and Television Network Inc, using a method that combines software engineering and project management, having accomplished tasks of user investigation and requirement analysis, data model design and prototype database building. The technological procedure of analysis and design is: first, making an investigation on the organizations, information system and the requirements of the case; Second, analyzing and summing-up the application, function and data requirements of Cable TV industry; Third, summarizing the conceptual model of Cable TV facility; and then using UML template (Microsoft Visio2002) to design logical data model and related tools of ESRI ArcGIS to complete database physical structure design in personal Geodatabase which based on Microsoft Access; Finally, this paper verifies the feasibility of data model through importing real...
