The virtual plant is the plant growing process in three dimensions that simulates by Virtual Reality on the computer .Taken the plant unit as object, it has three dimensions and visualization functions,which can reflect the true plant shape structure and gain the parallel process result of the plant scircadian zoology and shape structure.All researches of the virtual plant will bring a new chance of investigating the profound mystery of the plant life and the regulation of the growth processes and improving mankind's existing environment.This paper carried on the theory analysis of the L-system from several angles. Based on the fractal character of the plant shape, the expression mechanism of simulating plant by applying L-system was researched. Those usual forms of L-system, such as DOL-system, stochastic OL-system, parametric-stochastic L-system and context-sensitive L-system, were discussed systematically and their expression character were analyzed respectively, which were applied for simulating plant growth. L-system was used to combine new graphs by spelling and nesting the old graphs, such as some plants with flowers or fruits.In view of the fact that the traditional L-system was difficult to programmed, was inefficient to perform and was weak to intercommunicate, an intercommunion L-system method, which based on the Virtual Reality Modeling Language (VRML), was proposed. A section L-system codes was transformed to a brief recursion .The stage i graph was generated by transforming and revolving the stage i-1 graph. Indicated by experimentation, the new method was efficient and sententious.
