Virtual plant is the process of using computer technology to simulate plants'growth in three-dimensional space, mainly focuses on single plant or multiple plants, emphasizes on plants'morphology and simulates in computer. With the continuous development of scientific technology, researches on virtual plant have already stepped into mechanism from experience, reached pragmatic development phase rather than theory. Nowadays, approaches of virtual plants'modeling can be divided into two kinds: one is simply using human's visual effect to model their growth; the other one is using plants'physiology and structural features as foundation to simulate plants'growth. Plants'physiological modeling is commonly researched from single environmental factor because plants'construct mechanism and their interaction with environment and their growth process are complicated.This thesis primarily researches single environmental factor---sunlight's effect on chances in morphology and physiology during plants'growth process, establishes a interactive illumination model between plants and environment, proposes a plants growth modeling method under the influence of sunlight and utilizes computer technology to dynamically simulate the interactive process between virtual plant and sunlight, vividly implements plants'phototropism, main work is as follows:①This paper elaborates the theory importance and applicable value of plants'visualized modeling when affected by environmental factors, introduces the current research situation of virtual plants'growth simulation and visualization research in and outside of China.②This paper investigates the relationship of interaction between plants and environment, analyzes the effects caused by temperature, water, sunlight of environmental factors on plants'morphology and physiology and their features.③This paper builds an illumination model according to the effect feature of sunlight against plants, proposes a plants growth simulation method under the influence of sunlight and expounds the detailed process of tracing sunlight and calculating sunlight radiation energy, analyzes the plants growth simulation process.④This paper studies and implements a visualization modeling platform OOPLANTS of virtual plants by combining opening L system's thoughts, expounds the system's designing idea and application goal, discusses the system's key technology and realizes plants'phototropism's visualization modeling on this platform.⑤Finally, This paper summarizes the work been done in this thesis, analyzes the thesis's merits and drawbacks and gives a outlook of the feature work.
