This paper emphasizes on research and development of product configuration management in product data management (PDM), and explores product configuration management, which is based on embedded workflow driving.According to demands on PDM, a frame is built for small enterprise, and an embedded workflow driving product configuration management through the media of UML. After expatiating the model theory and main function, several key technology is put forward.The model objects and relationship between them are analyzed by E-R method. This paper designs server file-box structure which saves files according to digit name, as well as database structure that match file server. So this distributed storage mode for product data information and file information can enhance the product data security.The theory of workflow driving model is analyzed by means of Use-case approach, so is implementing methods between workflows in workflow driving model and the mutual data share between them. This model enhances the flexibility and agility of workflow.The theory and implementing methods are explained for how the parts and components engendered by work flow task are correctly submitted and put up to the product trees in work flow driving product configuration management model. This model enhances the data interaction between workflow module and product configuration module. A PDM system is developed making use of embedded workflow driving product configuration management approach. The case demonstrates feasibility of approach to the model.
