With the development of the modern technology, the structure of device become more and more complex, and the grade of automation become more and more high. The following problem is that once the key device occur fault, it will bring great danger in person safety, economy loss and great society influence. So what we wish is the following control of the machine: safety, steady, long cycle, full load and high performance. Fault diagnosis technique is based on the variation of the physical parameters such as vibration, noise, temperature, pressure etc, which was caused by the fault in the process of the running. This technique can calculate the fault in the early stage and can foreknow maintenance. Thus it avoids the uneconomical and unreasonable phenomenon that is resulted from surplus maintenance and brings about economic profits for society and enterprise.According to the high speed wire & rod plant of AnYang Iron & Steel Co.. this paper talks about the necessity of establishing the on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis system of rolling mill device, describes the components of the system as well as the structure and the function of the hardware and software and also the realization method, sets up an on-line monitoring and fault diagnosis system by configuration software and expert system based on CAN bus. Based on the development of the artificial intelligence, this thesis also states the application of expert system in the equipment fault diagnosis system. Through the diagnosis example in the engineer application, it can be proved that the diagnosis system can realize the on-line monitoring and offer the accurate parameters and can be used in many fields. Also the software of the system needs further research, and the network function needs to be further developed and expanded.
