Based on the ST HDTV evaluation board and the ST20 embedded toolset ,this paper studies the software technologies and software development of digital Set-Top- Box. Fist ,the ST HDTV evaluation board and its hardware and software architecture, the ST20 embedded tool set and the debug of the system software are also briefly introduced in this paper, then especially this paper also discussed the implementation of user interface subsystem of our digital set-top-box system and the design of system architecture and OSD graphic library based on Sti7000 OSD unit.Although STB just is a sort of terminal equipments of the TV signal transmission system, however pivotal technique involves the data demodulation, channel decode, Transport Stream de-multiplexing, Audio and Video signal decompression technique and Real-Time software technique with upriver data coding technique etc. Therefore, software and hardware technology research and development of STB, which can increase usefulness with dependable of digital video signal and audio signal for study later make the theories preparation and backlog experience. HDTV can offer excellent image and voice than current analogue television, and it has such as VOD, EPG, PVR, Internet browse...etc. service function. Numerous the customer of analogue televisions can watching the program of Digital TV, STB will be a line of valid method.Digital STB have got the prominent position in the Digital STB development in DTV process, but in Digital STB development, the Software development is again very important, this paper research to the Digital STB software technique and development joins together the ST HDTV Hardware flatform, the principle of real-time kernel and application is discussed, an EPG scheme is investigated, and the scheme are realized in the system; Proceeded the research to the User Interface sub- system, give the detailed design of the system, these functions or module are success from the software system at application. The norm of DVB- SI just ruled the transmission format of the additional information, give a suggestion for some delivering, but have no the provision how to realize EPG, therefore, this paper creative place is makes use of the DVB- SI criterion to realize EPG.
