Methodologies such as resource management by database and retrieval based on statistics have played an important role in the development of Internet;however, with the rapid development of resources on special areas, the disadvantage of those methodologies becomes obvious. For resource modeling, database methodology could not exactly depict the essential characteristics of resources and manage heterogeneous resources very well. For resources retrieval, traditional statistic strategy uses keyword based algorithms efficiently, but with the lack of semantic information, both search query and result have much misunderstanding. To overcome the disadvantage mentioned above, this paper presents a semantic-based architecture for resources management and search. For management, we provide two authoring tools for semantic annotation, which make resources machine-understandable;for search, we provide semantic search portal, and use semantic reasoning rules to improve search result. The main contributions of the work are:A semantic search model and relevant key techniques for resources in a given realmA semantic-based resource management architecture, and offering relevant authoring tools to support annotationSemantic search for resources, including concept, instance and relationship;the relationship can be further divided into three types in detail, i.e., the relationship between concepts, between instances, and between concept and instanceImplementation and application in research community and Dunhuang resources with technologies in semantic web and J2EE etc.
