Under the background of globalization; the rapid development of information technology has not only changed the mode of transmission, but also influenced the world competition. The advent of the information era made the relationship between countries and the world becoming more and more closely linked, and their inter-dependence is strengthening. Therefore, in such a historical period, establishing a good image of the country becomes increasingly important. Using of the power of the mass media, external communication plays an irreplaceable role in modeling the country image, so, studying the external transmission of the print media has an important theoretical and practical value.China Daily and China Today maintain its position as the representative of English-language newspapers and periodicals for the external spread. Choosing them as the studying target, the article analyzes their difference in style positioning, column settings, dissemination contents and distribution, and then analyzes in-depth the differences between English-language newspapers and periodicals in the external dissemination. These differences are given raised by the inherent characteristics of the two media forms and their founder's guiding ideology, and the differences will have an enormous impact in the long-term development of newspapers and periodicals. By analyzing large amounts of data and excuting the scientific logic reasoning, the development direction and the challenges of the English-language newspapers and periodicals of Mainland China become clearer.The followings are the main p?? of the article: The first chapter is introduction; it summarizes and comments the researches of home and abroad. The second chapter of the thesis analyzes the international spread's pattern in the globalization era, indicates the importance of the external spread in establishing country image, and points out that China's English-language newspapers and periodicals are powerful weapons in china's external communication. The third Chapter sums up China's English-language newspapers and English periodicals in detail respectively. Through the carding of the development process of English-language newspapers and periodicals, the history of China's external communication can be known by a handful the whole sack. The article considers that the mainland's major English-language newspapers and periodicals receive greater development after the founding of new China, and their reports reflect the changes of new China. The forth Chapter uses the case study method, and selects two typical examples to do an intensive study, it analyzes the differences of China Daily and China Today from their style positioning, column settings, dissemination contents and distribution.The fifth chapter summarizes the development prospects of China's English-language newspapers and periodicals, including the difficulties and their development space. Studies suggest that①the English-language newspapers and periodicals for external communication in mainland China are facing multiple challenges which are from the international and domestic, as well as its own, but they have done and be ongoing reform and innovation, and so in the short to medium term they will get larger development.②The long-term development of the newspapers and periodicals will be very different; The newspaper is going to split apart.The sisth part of the article discusses the external communication strategy of English-language newspapers and periodicals in Mainland China from two aspects. The last chapter is the main conclusion of the study. The paper summarizes the main point of view, and points out the development direction of China's English-language newspapers and periodicals. The newspaper will divide and split apart. The general news will be reported by the form of electronic communication, and the ib-depth reporting will be disseminated by journals; the newspaper may not change its name. However, from the angle of the media form, as a form of paper-based media, newspapers will ultimately perish. At?? same time, the chapter also points out that the key point to solute the external communication of China's English newspapers and periodicals lies on the successful cross-cultural communication.
