Nowadays, Fieldbus Control System (FCS) has become the most important technology in the field of industrial control system. However, as the field intelligent instruments has an unbelievable improvement, the measurement and control effect is required more and more perfect. The new concept of Asset Management System (AMS) is proposed. By this technology the all-sided state and detailed information of the field device could be obtained directly. The AMS System is an assistant tool to the fieldbus system, so it must meet the requirement of forward-looking management as well as the compatibility of various fieldbus systems. Till now, many automation companies, such as ABB, Emerson, Siemens, have developed their own AMS systems, but these systems are all limited because that the fieldbus protocols they support are narrow.This project focuses on the interoperability of various fieldbus protocols. The aim is at building a structure of a fieldbus-based Device Management Solution system which can support multi-protocols. In this dissertation, three kinds of Device Management System (DMS) which have got a popular application are analyzed firstly. Their advantages and disadvantages are pointed out and the functions that a DMS system should provide are summarized. Then, the solutions for the interoperability of various fieldbus protocols are got a detailed analysis. A plan of combining the FDT/DTM technology with the device description technology is put forward. Moreover, the device description technology is analyzed expressly. A DD text is advanced which is based on the DDL language. Then the grammar of DDL language and the details of DD development are described.On the basis of these researches, an in-depth investigation of device description languages is taken to get a resolving method to reduce the development cycles and the re-development cost. Firstly, the existing AMS systems are analyzed, especially the concept of interoperability. A feasible program was proposed when a better understanding of the development task was got. In order to meet the requirement of the AMS system, various device description texts have been researched and analyzed strictly. At the end, a concept of detachable and combinable device description libraries is advanced;furthermore, a device description text for the 1151 pressure transducer is realized. Nowadays, the DD texts have been verified by the FF-HSE and NI configuration software.Moreover, with the development of the related technology for the maintainability of the system, fault diagnosis and check operation, the AMS system could be realizedundoubtedly. Also, the FDT/DTM technology and Device Description technology have got an unbelievable improvement which makes it achievable to expand the development of the interoperability between different fieldbus protocols.
