This paper makes research on fieldbus sensor system interoperability and its application, which giving the solution to get device description of the fieldbus sensor facilities. The purpose is to realize fieldbus interoperability at sensor level. Its practical implementation is conducted by the application of CAN.At first, fieldbus interoperability is analysed and XML technology and networked sensor is introduced to interoperability application. A solution of realizing general sensor device description based on XML is also proposed. The main steps are as follows: the HART device description based on XML, the parsing of device description file, the device management, the implementation of configuration and application function.A practical application model is designed based on the structure analysis of networked sensor. The function of separate instrument into transducing part and network part by TII interface is basically realized, which using the design of STIM module and NCAP module. The interchange and inter-communication function between sensor and network is solved to a certain extent. The measurement of rotation speed using cycle method is designed to realize the rotation speed sensor system. The signal of sensor is sent to CAN by TII interface and the data of signal is changed to standard XML file by PC main node. The configuration and application function is implemented based on the solution.Experiments are conducted to verify the system design. The experimental results prove that advanced technologies of networked sensor and XML could be applied in fieldbus application system, which could promote the interoperability effectively. The solution is significant and valuable to solve the interoperability problem.
