In recent years, Virtual Reality (VR) technology has been paid extensive attention in many fields. Virtual reality technology is designing a living virtual environment based on the computer technology, which can achieve natural interaction between the user and the objects in the virtual environment by use of essential device.The concept "Digital Campus" is put forward after "Digital Earth" and "Digital City" appeared, it's an important component of digital city. Virtual Campus is becoming the most interesting research in academies. The design of virtual environment is the basic of the entire construction of virtual campus roaming system, it is a very important part in the whole implement of virtual reality system.Taking the 3D virtual digitization technology of HuaZhong Normal University as the example, the following aspects were discussed in this paper.1. The design of virtual campus environment, LOD technology and the effect presentation technology of the scene were studied and some important methods of virtual reality modeling technology were implemented.2. On the basic of the theoretical analysis of virtual reality technology and the scene design which face virtual reality, united the characteristic and requirement of virtual campus roaming system about HuaZhong Normal University, a technical plan which makes use of the geometry virtual reality modeling method was proposed, and the 3D environment of HuaZhong Normal University was constructed by using the professional modeling software--Multigen Creator.3. The general flow of the scene design in 3D virtual reality based on Multigen Creator/Vega was given, and some essential technology and methods of scene optimization and better presentation of the scene effect under the environment of Creator modeling were discussed.
