Virtual Reality is one of the latest advanced fields of the computer technology, and now has been abroad used in aviation, architecture, city planning and oil prospecting. Now virtual reality has become one core direction of research, development and use about information zones. Virtual reality is the synthetical result of communication, information, computer hardware, computer software and the physical technology. It supplies the people with feeling that it seems personally on the scene.Virtual reality has three characters: Interactivity, Illusion of Immersion, Imagination, I do some research on how to realize these characters. The research is based on realization of campus VR demonstration system.The main work I did in this paper is:1. The analysis of the way for 3D models. Texture mapping is very important to virtual reality, so I do some research on it.2. Hidden faces technology is which is to be shown when given the line of sight and the point of sight. I do some research on two kinds of way for hidden faces: Z buffer and BSP algorithm, and compare them.3. The analysis of the latest core software of virtual reality: Multigen Creator and Vega. And I also introduce the main panels and the main technology of two kinds of software.4. Bring out the design idea of modules to realize campus VR demonstration system.5. Realize the 3D models of objects in the campus with Multigen Creator and use the theory referred the pre text into the process.6. Realize the design of the virtual reality's roaming engine.
