The Virtual Reality is one kind of technology that produces a highly vivid simulation environment by using computer to make user immerse into the virtual environment by some kinds of sensor interfaces and accomplish interaction between user and environment. 3D modeling technology which is an important part in virtual reality system is the foundation of the Virtual Campus system.The design of Stereometric HuaZhong Normal University Stereometric Virtual Campus was taken as the research object to discuss the modeling technology and presentation method. 3D models' data presentation in the computer which provided foundation for modeling theory was described at the beginning. Then methods of 3D modeling for different kinds of objects such as terrain, buildings, natural landscape and particle system were discussed. These methods are very important for describing the objects' features.Some key modeling technologies and database optimizing technologies with Multigen Creator software which was very meaningful for some real-time system were discussed in this paper. The key technologies such as mapping technology, LOD technology and DOF technology were analyzed. To simplify the complexity of all the models, database optimizing technologies were used to adjust the hierarchy structure of the whole database and reduce the number of the polygon. Database optimizing technologies can pick up the speed of rendering and running observably.The structure of Vega software and the real-time rending technologies were discussed in the last part. HuaZhong Normal University was taken as an example to describe the flow of establishing the whole Virtual Campus system, the control of campus walkthrough and the running process of the whole system.
